What Makes a Good Essay?
When I was teaching first-year writing, you know, ask students how many of you learned something about your topic that changed your perception of it while you were writing? And the answer was almost zero. This is actually something that should be constantly present in writing. It happens to me, I read a lot of different things for different places and it happens every single time I write. In fact, if it doesn't happen, I'm suspicious about what I'm doing.
