The Importance of South Sudan in American Foreign Policy
South Sudan became a country in 2011. The United States played a very big role in helping it work its way through and emerge to becoming an independent country. So I was looking for a challenge in a place where even as a young diplomat, I could have an impact and really see the fruits of what we're doing on the ground. And I saw a lot of potential there.
