The Impact of Patents on Innovation

If you have no patent system then your incentive to create and publicize a new invention is quite low. We talk in the book about the interaction of forceps, a technology which saves lives today. But it stayed locked up for decades because the family that invented forceps couldn't patent them at the time. Things like the evergreening of pharmaceutical patents I think has damaged innovation in those contexts.
