The biggest drug cartels in the world realized that there was a huge profit opportunity by cashing in on these synthetic drugs like fentanyl. The Cidoloa cartel, one of the biggest in the world, made commercial agreements with criminal gangs in China to buy chemical precarsors that are required to make fentanyl. These are being shipped from China over to Mexico, where they go into under grind labs and they make the fentanyl and then they transport it into the US. And as you said, it's 50 times more powerful than heroin. It's creating addicts almost immediately.
