John's Bringing a Coming Judgment

John the Baptist's ministry is taking place at this point where the old covenant is about to pass over into the new. And so that's kind of where we want to look next is in verses five through six we see this watery call for repentance that's bound up with his baptism. He says repent for the kingdom of God is at hand. It had probably been generations it has been not probably it's been generations centuries since a prophetic figure like John was around right. Yet here he comes he's dressed like Elijah and speaks sort of with the authority of Jeremiah, but he isn't John wasn't the focus here.
