The Carry Trade and the Banking Crisis

Carry trade is an investment strategy that central bankers and regulators need to keep an eye on when setting monetary policy in order to preserve financial stability. Economic historians are focused on the effects of crises which have short term phenomenon. They're not interested in carry trade which doesn't really generate wealth in the long term. This isn't a way of generating wealth, this isn't a ways of generating productivity growth so we should be looking at how it contributes towards periods of financial vulnerability or fragility.
