I think it was flannery o'connor who said her advice to authors something to that effect, that you have to respect these characters enough not to make them a mouthpiece for your ideas. I maybe we shouldn't think too much about tom bombardille, but i think that when i read him this time round, it seems to me that er, he's sort of representative of s people i encounter and have no idea how to categorize. Well, maybe they're angels in disguise. Angels are very good at disguising. Are you one? You'll never know.
