Homeless? Is That a Good Idea?
In pre-civil and post-civil war, there were a lot of Americans who spent some amount of time camping. It was not considered the social stigma of not sleeping under a roof. But as you get industrialize, that becomes much more of a tell about your socioeconomic status than it might have been before. And so just leaves the, the urban homeless or back then, bums. They're the only people that a lot of urban people know who are sleeping without a home.
