Prince Hall and Freemasonry
Prince Hall was an admirer of the Founding Fathers. He encouraged young black men, free men, to fight in the Revolutionary War because he believed at the British crown was defeated, that this new United States would free all black men. Prince Hall and 14 other free black men who lived in Boston petitioned for admittance to the all-white Boston St. John's Masonic Lodge. They were finally initiated into masonry by members of a lower caste Grand Lodge of Ireland on March 6, 1775.
