The Trial of Lenny Bruce
Ephraim London believes that free speech must be defended and that obscenity law is ludicrous. According to legal precedent, no performance can be considered obscene if it contains redeeming social value. The next morning, Bruce wakes up in his room at the Molten Hotel in downtown Manhattan. He struggles to sit up but collapses back onto the sheets. Terrified, Bruce fumbles for the phone on the nightstand,. he picks it up, dials the operator, and gasping for air, begs for an ambulance.
