The Apostasy of Joash
After Jehuiah's death, the princes of Judah forsook God and served idols. wrath came upon them for this their guilt. They conspired against Joash by stoning his son Zechariah to death. When they had departed from him, leaving him severely wounded, his servants conspired against him as well. The Syrians destroyed all the princes of the people in a very great army because they had forsaken the Lord. Amaziah reigned in his stead until he was killed at the end of the year.
