Despite how Putin tries to sort of spin this as great patriotic war 2.0, what we saw is how quickly Stalin appreciated the different needs and not only did he withdraw himself from trying to micromanage the conflict. But also we saw the astonishing spectacle of highly regarded military officers who had then been dispatched to the Gulag labor camps, being summoned back and given office again. So you do have these figures who can actually recover but still I think the point is why is the regime having to firstly dismiss and suspend and investigate its own officers? What does this actually mean for the regime and perhaps even for the prospects of the war in Russia? We'll talk about those questions after the break
