The Bifurcation of American History

I think nothing is more consequential right now in terms of current policy debates. I guess talk through some technologies that were where the gains did not really go to the average person and then maybe then we'll talk about some that did. Things that went badly for the average person, things that were huge increases in productivity but the average worker may not have been better off. There's a lot of examples in history. The most dramatic and rather horrible one from American history is of course the invention of the cotton gin which allowed a lot of the deep south to become suitable for cotton cultivation.
