The Battle of Bastogne

By the end of 1944 it became clear to Nazi Germany that they were losing ground on their eastern front to the Soviets at an alarming rate. Adolf Hitler had to realise that he needed to sue for peace on the western front but would not be able to do that unless he could get the upper hand. He launched a major offensive into the heart of the Allied occupied territory in Belgium with the intention of capturing the port of Antwerp. The launch of the attack in December 1944 caught the Allies by surprise and the Allies hurriedly attempted to fight back without any formal preparation. So the 101st Airborne including Easy Company were sent to Bastogne to defend it. They endured relentless German gunfire as
