The way to think about levels, at least to me is levels are not about your technical ability. It's about the expectations that we should have for you. If you're a principal engineer, it doesn't mean you're necessarily smarter than everybody else. That is not as relevant, especially to get to the senior level where you can be a really, really good engineer and just say, "I don't really want to do meetings"
