The Korean Armistice Agreement
The Armistice Agreement in Korea was finally reached on July 27, 1953. But among Sigmund Rhee, South Korean right-wingers and a good chunk of the American military brass, the Armistice was a disaster. On June 9, 1953, a crowd of 500,000 people in Seoul demonstrated feverishly against an Armistice. And then, less than two weeks later, a United Press headline ran, quote, A-bombs may be used if truce efforts fail. Plans envisioning large-scale use of A-b bombs were prepared in the Pentagon, but shelved prior to the current series of truce talks military sources revealed today.
