In today’s episode of The Cross & the Jukebox, we take a break from country music to cover R.E.M.’s “Losing My Religion.” In a time when stories of people leaving the faith have become all too common, the song has become a sort of anthem for many. For many, this is less about cognitive decisions, and more about how religion has been used as a tool for power and maintaining cultural norms. This song functions as a lament at this contradiction between what the faith says and how the faithful act.
