Reagan's Transition to Ideology in Judiciary

Before Ronald Reagan was elected, presidents did not think about ideology when appointing judges and justices. Dwight Eisenhower appointed Brennan and Warren for political gain to reward Warren for his help in California. Truman gave judgeships to personal friends, often conservatives. Before Reagan, there was no ideological divide between Democrats and Republicans.
