Are Dogs the Same as Our Dogs?
Dogs are defined, not in terms of function, at least partly in terms of evolutionary origin. So if we were to find on an alien planet creatures that will purfect duplicats of our dogs, it wouldn't be dogs. They would function like dogs, but they wouldn't be Dogs. But as i say, i think it's just a verbal dispute. It's sort of like the difference between studying a phone as a phone and turns ot what it does, or studying it as an apple phone, turms it is brand and where it came from.
