Is There a Single Definition of Intelligence?
I think the book is about intelligence. There's lots of qualities really that come up when we talk about intelligence, things like making plans, having memories and complex problem solving. And most definitions of intelligence really are a kind of grab bag of these things, but there's no settled kind of single, metrical definition. I realized at some point I would have to be quite clear about what I meant when I was talking about intelligence. But it just became really startling, you know, a whole range of actual applications of AI in society and the world at large present - they represent a very narrow idea of what intelligence is.
