The Status of Medics in Athens

Each medic had to be nominated by an Athenian sponsor, called a prostatis. Citizenship was very rarely granted to medics though. More common was the special status of equal rights under which they were freed from usual liabilities. They basically shared the burdens of citizenship, but without any of its political privileges.
