Is the Papacy a Permanent Obligation?

Pope benedict is no longer the pope. He has renounced the office. To make this rigid distinction between ministry and office is illegitimate. But that should not be interpreted rigidly in the sense that he has this juridical obligation as if he's still in the office of the papacy. That would be a problem.
