Andrew Kelsey's Mercy
Kelsey Stone and his partner Charles Stone were killed by a group of 16 pommel men. The killings inaugurated a period of retaliatory violence against multiple native communities that lasted months. For the first time, it involved not just vigilante groups but members of the US Army. In 1850, soldiers of the first Dragoons rode into a Native American village near the Kelsey Stone Ranch.
