The Difference Between Original Content and Derived Intentionality
Derived intentionality is content that does constitutively depend on other instances of intentionality. For example, a stop sign doesn't represent stop just by itself but because we take it to represent stop. It's commonly accepted that there are cases of derived intentionality outside the mind,. Most advocates of pitt think that there is also derived intentionality inside the mind. But for you, for the pit person, it all ultimately bottoms out in consciousness that is just about stuff in a way that isn't fundamental.
