The Lestregonians
Stephen and Bloom first cross paths in the realm of the winds. They do not seek each other out, but they are in the same place at the same time. This was the chapter where I first understood what Joyce was doing with his manner of writing. It is an experiential writing. Early in this chapter he even gives us a clue about what he is doing. In this chapter Bloom is going from one restaurant to another, wondering where he's going to eat lunch. The way the chapter is written, you come out smeared with pie and grease and fish and everything. As Bloom moves on thinking about lunch, images of food and eating are everywhere, on nearly every page.
