Is There a Desire for Specialness?
The desire for us to be special? I think that's at the core of the ego. There are things that we want that can't be reduced to that, like physical pleasure is a big drive and you can't reduce it to wanting to feel special on emotional level. So I think specialness is, is like the beating heart of the ego, but it's not the sum total. But I am going to bring you back to gratitude at some point because there's the specialness point is made there.
