Occupy was enough of a counterweight to the tea party movement. It did at least start to try to conseptualise the idea of the dream of a mass politics. But even the most ardent supporter of leninist, democratic centralism doesn't acturally think you should just have a party leadership telling the masses what all the partive ought to do. That's what verticality means in that context.
