What Is Hardiness?

The word calorie is derived from an 18th century scientific theory of heat that was very incorrect. The use of hardiness to describe particularly nourishing food probably derives from meanings of the word heart, used to describe inner strength necessary to overcome challenges. A kilocalory is the thermal energy needed to raise the temperature of one kilo of water by one degree Celsius.
