The Civic Guard and the War in Paris

Austrian government called in the Civic Guard to help restore order. Many of the guard members were liberal reformers who took their mobilization as an opportunity to push back against the government's repression. The regular army was ordered back to their barracks, and the Civic Guard was given the keys to the city arsenal which housed 40,000 guns.
