The Tower of Babel and the Advent of Multilingualism

David Frum: I can't think like the young people. They are already crazy, he says. He argues that Babel is not about Babylon and has nothing to do with multilingualism. In ancient Mesopotamian texts, one mouth was seen as good governance; when enemies of the king had one mouth, it's treason. And so in my understanding of the tower Babel, these are idioms of united political affront against the divine.
