America's a Wild Country

America is a wild country. That's the first thing to understand. You don't know how wild a country you've got. Paul kennedy was once asked what, to him, as a european, was the most striking and defining historical feature of the united states. And he said that it was the sheer size of the place. We often take for granted just how much space we have in this country. It meant that there was always a frontier over which was liteal wilderness with untamed land and people after europeans startd settling this continent.
