i was struck by something matthew writes in his book, which is, craft is in the habit of making and maintaining taboos. He talks about how things often edited out of workshop stories end up impacting writers of color who have largely been expected to explain themselves to a white readership. I know this idea that we have had a very, you know, white, heteronormative, male view of story telling has influenced me in my space,. You know, i've heard from editors over the years that a story would be better if it had a male protagonist instead of a female protagonist. Just these sort of subtle ways that the way that we do craft, or what the expectations are
