History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps

CHAPTER

Melancthon's Teachings on Human Nature

Melancthon was an expert rhetorician. How then might he persuade us of this bleak view of fallen human nature? In part just by telling us to be ust with ourselves about our own inner lives. As melancthon puts it, human reason is fleshly and is beset by ignorance. This goes perfectly with the lutheran idea that humans are inevitably prone to sin since our souls are under the influence of bodily desire.
