Author Kim Kelly says that these upheavals are made possible not only by people responding to material conditions but also learning from struggle  in the instance of the great upheaval that general strike came after a series of other smaller strikes this fall thousands of prisoners across alabama organized a general strike bringing prisons to a grinding halt.
