The Rise and Fall of John Quincy Adams
The original court that heard the case ruled in favor of the enslaved Africans. President Martin Van Buren, who was a Northerner but had a lot of southern sympathies, ordered the case be appealed to the spring court. John Quincy Adams agrees to argue the case. He does so in such a persuasive way that he convinces Supreme Court justices who are pro-slavery to decide on behalf of the Africans. Once they won this case elected to be returned to Africa.
