Why You Shouldn't Grow Trees, or Preserve Them

Trees do an incredibly good job by cleaning the air, filting water, and keeping nutrients in the soil. But if you want to get the bigger bang for your buck, restore degraded peat lands or preserve those that already exist. In fact, wildfire fighters will tell you that bogs and fins and swamps and marshes are their best friend. They can mitigate floods because they absorb so much moisture. It's one of the reasons why we see the Great Lakes now growing so much blue algae.
