The idea was essentially to anglicize a indigenous youth. Part of this was, there was an idea that the older generations of inigious peoples were a two set in their heathen ways. And one of the main pathways to targeting the youth was through education. The students where orkit and your youth were removed from their families, put into these schools,. Then the practices a customs traditions, the use of the language was prohibited, and in some cases there was a physical punishment for violating these prohibitions.
