The Role of Hauntings in Fiction

Julie had a moment in her adulthood where it became apparent to a very small group of people that she didn't do it. She knows if she's not careful this ghost is gonna come back and she's gonna be that kid who was you know waiting for her dad to get out of control and dreading it so what do you think the role of hauntings slash ghosts are for characters in fiction? I think that's a good place to mine characters psyche because one of the questions that I asked myself when I'm writing a character is what haunts themwhat is unresolved what follows them around.
