You need superior information about the company, either through analysis or maybe somebody who does have superior information leaked it to you. Jim Kramer's Confessions of a Street Attic talked not only about having superior information and how he tried to get it as a hedge fund manager. He paid off Wall Street analysts by giving them a lot of trades so they used to call him first. You can always get lucky and I'm not saying you won't become unlucky, but you'll eventually make money picking stocks.
