When I was struggling to learn to drive, the only way I could hold down my panic was to be my father. My father had been driving since he was 14. So I would literally sit there and intrude my father's self inside my own. And then I could understand how you held yourself while you were driving. It's exactly the way you find your voice in writing. Nobody ever finds their voice by shutting off their influences. You find it by imitating other people.
