Growing up in Colorado, I felt very exposed to part of the natural world. It was only later when I wound up moving to cities that it felt like that was quite unusual. My dad gave me the freedom to not know what I was going to be. He really had confidence in both me and my brother that we would just wind up doing something that was appropriate for us.
