The Importance of Listening to Women

Freud, I feel, has his feet in both places. He doesn't quite go with the winds of progress, but he's also not stuck in an older worldview. Because of that, he's able to do something extraordinary, which is bring to the surface the meaning of dreams and sexuality. And he does this in this strange way by starting, at least at the very beginning, listening to women. It's because as a psychiatrist, this is what was there. This was the problem for that moment in time. They were the ones who were making a lot of noise within this place... Freud didn't understand it or had blind spots about it.
