Is the Military Heroic?
To me, to sort of die fighting is an honorable way to die, it feels like that. I feel a lot less moral attachment to those upper echelons than I do the people on the ground. If you're going to send my son in harm's way, I'm going to demand that you really need to be sending him into harm's way. And so I have much more suspicion about the system that sends these people into situations where they're not required to be heroic.
