How Detail Should I Get When I'm Talking About a Crime?

Throughout my career, I was working cases that were contemporary. So there are living victims, loved ones, most notably Golden State Killer. Different people have different thoughts on how they want the media to cover their case. And so this is where now that I'm in this public arena and talking about cases, I struggle with how detailed should I get sometimes? Because I may go into a realm which could be very, very hard for loved ones of the victims to hear what happened to their victim.
