The History of Diodorus
Diodorus' most relied upon source was Ephorus of Kind, who wrote a universal history in the 4th century BC. Scholars believe that Diodorus preserved this work for posterity by copying large parts of his writings. The discovery of papayri fragments of a work called Hellenica had been lost in late antiquity. It does not name its author, and although some have speculated that it is the work of Cretipus, this is not universally agreed on. Some scholars even go as far as to argue that the anonymous historian's credibility should be considered superior to that of Xenophon.
