The Importance of Engaged Buddhism in Modern Politics
Buddhism will likely only operate as a fetish in today's political climate. Can you imagine mainstream economic and political institutes reflecting on compassion and the cycle of rebirth when considering 21st century economic or political policies well I guess anything is possible but not so likely. If Buddhist ideas are brought into a lively discussion with a prominent social democrat or conservative thinker they may get some sympathy they may not. Will these ideas hold up to scrutiny and how will they look when turned into real world policies that must be voted for or against majority of our political thinkers would find the thought of Tigna Khan and others very pretty no doubt but also naive and a long way from pragmatic realities of real politic
