i'm fully aware that on this issue, i strongly resemble a crank. I think the policebo effect is an illusory artifact of the research process. Clinical trials are not set up to measure the ibo effect. They're set up to control for the plasibo effect - two very different things. And there's lots of reasons why people in both groups are going to get better. So when you give half of them a new intervention and thenhalf of them a dummy pill, it doesn't make any difference at all. If you're doing an experiment with children or adults who don't know anything about each other, they'll be able to tell if something has been done wrong
