The Hessian War in America

Hessian troops embarked for America in April and June of 1776. Their first stop was Portsmouth, where they got more food and additional ships so the voyage would be more comfortable. About 800 Hessians in that first convoy were sick once they arrived. Scurvy and diarrhea were two of the big complaints. A lot of them made themselves ill on unripe apples after they landed.
