Is Consciousness an Evolutionary Spandrel or an Adaptive Trait?
consciousness most likely is not a spandrel. It's an aspect of The dynamics of nervous systems that Creates the conditions for biological cognition to occur in a kind of unimpeded way or in a free flowing way something like that. So it's sort of a It's a background condition for the for brains like ours to perform cognitive functions Or certain cognitive functions There's other cognitive function. Maybe they can perform when they're not conscious, but they're limited. That's my guess. I don't have a proof of that But it seems to me the most plausible Um the most plausible so it's not so much that consciousness Is an adaptation itself but that it's abackground condition that
