Justice Katanji Brown Jackson called out the court on purporting to be upholding the Voting Rights Act while it is gutting it from the inside out. "I looked at the report that was submitted by the Joint Committee on Reconstruction, which drafted the 14th amendment," she said in her first week on the bench. The framers themselves adopted the Equal Protection Clause, the 14th and 15th amendments 'in a race conscious way,' he added.
